ABOUT ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation was founded by Allan Gray in 2005 out of his dream to create a sustainable contribution to the country, by helping students who are the future entrepreneurs of Southern Africa.

The Foundation receives its funding from the donation of Allan Gray Limited’s taxed profits. The Foundation currently operates in 4 countries across Africa, namely South Africa; Namibia; Swaziland and Botswana.

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship programme aims to provide funding for students to study at university level, as well as providing support and development for those who demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset.

ABOUT ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FOUNDATION PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is among General Bursaries South Africa.

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation award up to 100 Fellowships to deserving students each year, within the following fields:

Engineering
Law
Commerce
Science
Humanities
Health Science (excluding Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science)

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION PROCESS

The following study related expenses are covered by the fellowship award: university tuition fees, prescribed books, university accommodation, meals, monthly living stipend, tutor allowance. Students also receive academic support, mentorship and access to a personal development and entrepreneurial programme.

Matric students: shortlisted candidates will be contacted and required to attend a face to face interview (to take place in June or July 2019), shortlisted candidates will then be required to attend the Selection Camp (to take place in September 2019).

ALLAN GRAY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Matric students:

South African citizen (or citizen of Botswana/ Namibia/ Swaziland)
Under 21 years old in 2019
Currently in Matric
Achieved a minimum of level 5 for Mathematics HG in Grade 11 finals
Achieved a minimum overall average of level 6 in Grade 11 finals (excluding Life Orientation)
Intend on studying towards a degree qualification within one of the aforementioned fields of study
Intend on studying at one of the following partner universities: University of Johannesburg/ University of the Witwatersrand/ University of Pretoria/ University of Cape Town/ University of the Western Cape/ Stellenbosch University/ TSIBA (2nd year intake)/ Rhodes University/ Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University/ University of KwaZulu-Natal/ University of the Free State
Completed the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2019
Strong leadership qualities or entrepreneurially-minded
University students (1st/ 2nd year):

South African citizen (or citizen of Botswana/ Namibia/ Swaziland)
1st year students: under 22 years old in 2019
2nd year students: under 23 years old in 2019
Completed Matric
Studying towards a degree qualification within one of the aforementioned fields of study
Studying at one of the following partner universities: University of Johannesburg/ University of the Witwatersrand/ University of Pretoria/ University of Cape Town/ University of the Western Cape/ Stellenbosch University/ TSIBA (2nd year intake)/ Rhodes University/ Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University/ University of KwaZulu-Natal/ University of the Free State
1st year students: achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for June 2019 exams
2nd year students: achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for 2018 final exams AND June 2019 exams
Strong leadership qualities or entrepreneurially-minded
