The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application form is now available. Find out details and application processes below.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) which is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training is a bursary and loan scheme aimed at assisting financially disadvantaged students to further their tertiary education as well as those who do not qualify for study loans and other bursary programmes.
NSFAS FUNDING ELIGIBILITY
The NSFAS funding provides financial assistance for:
South African undergraduate students, who are studying (or intend to study at a recognized University or TVET College (please note that this is not applicable to university students.)
If the below listed applies to you, please DO NOT apply:
a) You have already applied online at NSFAS (www.nsfas.org.za).
b) You have applied for NSFAS through a TVET college before 12 May 2017.
c) You have already received NSFAS funding for 2017.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply for the NSFAS Funding, students will need to register their account on the NSFAS website (http://my.nsfas.org.za) – which might take about 30 minutes.
Students can now download and complete the NSFAS-TVET-Application-Form-second-semester (PDF) once they have successfully registered their personal online account.
The full list of the required documents can be found on the NSFAS-Supporting-Document-Checklist, which includes the below listed:
- South African ID document/ ID card/ unabridged birth certificate (certified copy)
- Parents/ guardians and other household members South African ID documents (certified copies)
- Matric certificate, if you have completed Matric (certified copy)
- Latest academic record/ results on tertiary letterhead, if currently at University or a TVET college (certified copy)
- Proof of residence (instructions can be found on the checklist)
Completed application forms and supporting documentation must be submitted to:

Students may also submit their application forms and supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at their closest public TVET college.
Application closes on August 4, 2017 (TVET Colleges students).
